Dear wiki admin(s):

Holy god damn you obliterated a lot of content.

Deleting pages is not cool. There is zero reason for it. Instead, blank the content.

  • Determine if that page has some value, to someone. Move the page as a sub-page to a user page, if it only has one editor.
  • If moving content.
    1. Learn what points to a page and edit all of those links. ALL OF THEM.
    2. Blank the content out. Do not ever delete a page. Make sure the blanking-edit has an editing note with the exact page name of where the content went.
  • If a page is "obsolete". Blank it out and clearly state it's obsolete data. Make sure the blanking-edit has an editing note with the exact page name of where the updated content is.
  • If a page is a redirect you don't like, edit every single page which links to it. Or just leave it there. Redirects aren't murdering babies or anything.

Things I'm particularly pissed at you about:

.. what else did you delete? That functionality is ONLY FOR REMOVING SPAMBOT-CREATED PAGES. It goes contrary to everything wiki, and really really makes me want to knock you down and throttle the life out of you. — Spiralofhope-logo-016.png spiralofhope / (talk) 19:18, 9 June 2014 (CEST)

So instead of leaving a discussion in place, you deleted it. This is exactly the sort of thing you need to learn to avoid. Deletion was only ever implemented in any wiki to remove spam. It destroys the entire history of edits. Deleting anything but spam is the Wrong Thing To Do.

"Your content was over 2 years old and there was some pages with nothing on them so what do you expect me to do?)"

Try to see my perspective.

  • At least a few pages were deleted where they had valuable content. Content you saw as old was actually still up-to-date.
  • I see many pages were deleted. I know that some of those pages did have valid content. Therefore, I cannot trust your page-deletion judgment.
  • Deleting, instead of blanking, bans regular users from seeing that content.
  • Since I cannot audit the other deleted pages, I don't know what other pages may or may not have valid content.

I've been treated like a spammer, and had content removed with no ability to even tell what was even written, let alone improve it.

So instead of hopping onto IRC and being a jerk with me right there in the room, maybe try opening a dialogue. I can see if I came off as rude. I really really can't stand deletion. It's book-burning to me.

I'm perfectly willing to:

  1. Provide a list of pages for restoration
  2. Go over the list to audit their content for value
  3. Blank out any pages which are not useful
  4. Edit pages which can be improved
  5. Merge useful content into existing pages, blanking the original

.. and any number of other things. Who you called "some moron" is actually a hell of a lot more capable and experienced than you appreciate.
